he European Commission is considering awarding a higher level of advances for direct payments to Romanian farmers, from 50 to 70 percent, as well as for certain rural development measures in Romania, from 75 to 85 percent, according to a statement by the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry (MADR).“In order to support Romanian farmers, after the difficult weather phenomena that took place this year, Agriculture minister Petre Daea has requested that the European Commission, through the European commissioner for agriculture and rural development, Phil Hogan, help by increasing the advance amount for direct payments and rural development measures that are awarded in the fall of this year. European commissioner Phil Hogan has given a favourable response to minister Petre Daea’s request,” MADR’s statement reads.
